School Garden 2024
School Garden 2024
The school garden has made remarkable progress in the last 12 months, starting with a bare patch of lawn next to the tennis courts last October.

We now have it fenced, thanks to our Property manager Mark’s time and skills, who also worked up the four garden beds for us.

Jenny Dunbier from our Science Primary subject, helped with materials for the fencing project and supplied rotted baylage to help add organic matter to the very poor sandy soil in the garden.

We were delighted to be able to purchase a Morrifield Tunnel house to prolong our growing season with help from Science Primary funding.

The next development was a garden shed for the tools that had been donated by Enviro Schools. The shed was thanks to the Sustainablity Committe who applied for a grant to purchase it.

We are very thankful to the property staff, both Mark and Terry, who have assembled the Tunnel house, and shed. Terry and Taine built a raised bed for us.

We are also grateful to The Alexandra Men’s Shed, who built 2 raised garden beds for the tunnel house. The raised beds  will allow us to grow a wider range of vegetables.

The finanical support from the Food and Nutrition Department, and Science Primary has been essential to make this progress possible.

The Sustainablility Committee and the Food and Nutrition Department were delighted to get a good crop of potatoes and 6 pumpkins.

Some of the vegetables were used in Food Classes, and some turned into fundraising products for the Sustainabilty Committee.

Thank you to everyone who has made this amazing progress possible.
