DUNSTAN NEWS
29 November 2024 - 12.30pm to 3.00pm
We are excited to partner with Dunstan High School for their Student Volunteering Day and invite you to participate!
We invite you to host local rangatahi at your organisation, and offer them a way to connect to your purpose, and demonstrate the many ways they can have an impact on their community, by channeling their skills, ideas, energy and enthusiasm in a positive way.
When: Friday 29th Nov, 12.30-3.00pm
Who: Year 9 and 10 students (13-15 year olds) accompanied by teachers to support you
Location:
Anywhere around Alexandra and Clyde - the school has access to buses to get large groups to your site.
Have a great project but don’t have the space to work from? DHS can provide spaces large or small, including speciality rooms like the food technology facilities.
Submit a student role:
Roles can vary - they can slot alongside your regular volunteers or you may choose to get creative and take this as an opportunity to tackle a new idea or project, perhaps something you’ve been meaning to do but haven’t had the time/people to action.
In the past students have:
Cooked meals or baked for the freezer or fundraising purposes
Sorted items or created displays
Helped with native planting tasks, garden care, or trail maintenance
Performed, played games/sports or supporting activities at care homes, early childhood centres, or primary schools
Applied creative skills to make cards or gifts for a good cause
Provided help with using technology
Created posters, taken photos or videos to create promotional content for a campaign
And many more - if you have an idea for a role, let us know and we can help you craft into something appropriate for the occasion.
Number of students: It is up to you how many students you wish to host. You can have 3-4 students or as many as 20+.
Managing young volunteers:
Consider how many of your own staff/volunteers you will need.
The school can provide teacher support.
Never worked with youth before? Volunteer South can support you with resources and best practices around how to effectively support young volunteers and ensure a meaningful, impactful experience for all involved.
Fill out this form to submit your role by Thursday 7 November 2024. If you’re keen to participate, but have questions before you sign up, please get in contact with Sue O’Brien, our Community Connector to start the conversation: email [email protected] or phone 027 506 5705.
