Combined with students from Blue Mountain College, Maruawai College and St Peter’s College, they each steered an U16 crew in the 3 km event. Jesse’s crew finishing 2nd with Noah’s crew 3rd. They then backed up immediately to paddle in the open 10km division. This was waka ama’s first race in competition and in testing conditions finished in 5th place from a field of 9.
These young men paddled up 2 divisions in the open division in this event and paddled like they belong there.
As their coach, I am extremely proud of what they have achieved over the last 12 months.
