2022 National School MTB Champs Roundup

Bluff hosted the 2022 National School MTB Champs from the 13th - 16th of October, the last 4 days of the school holidays. First up on the Thursday was the 4 stage Enduro with the younger ones in the morning and the older students in the afternoon. In the morning Cam Moir was 4th in a big field in the U15 boys with Jack Sole 7th. In the afternoon Cooper Millwood was 2nd in the U16 boys with Hayley Harris 2nd in the U16 girls, brilliant rides from these two. Eddie Adams was 8th in the U17 boys with Steffi Moss 7th in the U17 girls and Grace Moir 4th in the U20 girls.

On Friday was the Downhill in dry and dusty conditions with Cam Moir placing 9th after a big stack in his seeding run and Jack Sole 15th.

Saturday was the second day of DH with crashes the theme of the day. Cooper Millwood placed 5th after getting held up in his race run after a decent crash in his seeding run. Eddie Adams was 19th after a crash in his race run. Hayley Harris was 3rd to gain another podium with Steffi Moss 6th and Grace Moir 4th after a crash filled day leaving her battered and bruised. Flynn Ealson came down for the day gaining 26th.

Sunday was the XC and time to bring out the lycra. Cam Moir was first up at 8:30am having a good race to finish 6th and gain 3rd overall. Eddie Adams had the race of his life, starting strongly to be in the first trio on lap 1 and then extend his lead and eventually comfortably win by 2 minutes. Cooper Millwood again had a very strong race to finish 2nd and gain 2nd overall. Steffi Moss sadly hit a tree on Dad’s bike and reinjured her shoulder and could not finish. Hayley Harris finished 5th in her XC race which earned her 2nd overall. Grace Moir completed 4 laps to finish her XC race in 7th, earning her 2nd overall.

Dunstan High School finished 3rd best High School in NZ, an amazing effort with only 8 students competing.
