Junior anglers in Central Otago are encouraged to get out fishing for a chance to win one of three fishing rod and reel sets.

Otago Fish & Game has recently liberated 200 rainbow trout into Butchers Dam, near Alexandra, for a junior fishing competition.

Three of these rainbows are marked with an orange tag in the dorsal fin. If a junior angler catches a tagged fish, send Otago Fish & Game a photo of the fish with the tag still attached to win a rod and reel. The competition is open to all licensed anglers aged 17 years and under.

These rainbows are in excellent condition. The fish are 2 years old and were raised in the Macraes trout hatchery.

Photos of the tagged fish should be emailed to [email protected] or [email protected]. Please include the angler's name and phone number.

The prizes, donated by Mike Teasdale Motors, can be collected from the Otago Fish & Game office in Cromwell.
